2. Nitecore Tactical Flashlight

The Verdict:

While we did like the Nitecore Tactical Flashlight, we didn’t like that it permanently stopped working after we accidentally dropped it on the sidewalk from a height of about three feet. Add to this that it can’t use regular batteries like the FotiaLamp can puts Nitecore firmly in second place.

Pros

Bright beam
Solid construction

Cons

Can only be used at full power for a limited time, after which you must switch to low-power mode
Uses hard to find, non-standard batteries
Our unit stopped working after it was dropped
No lantern function

3. J5 Tactical Flashlight

The Verdict:

While not bad for an affordable option, we felt that the J5 Flashlight skimped on too many important features that people require in a tactical flashlight.

Pros

Adjustable sensitivity settings
Affordable

Cons

No lanyard capability
Battery life of only one hour
No magnetic mount
Fiddly zoom function
No lantern function

4. Fenix Tactical Flashlight

The Verdict:

While this unit provided reasonable performance, its non-portability limits its usage.

Pros

Good battery life
Includes pocket clip
Includes belt loop

Cons

Uses hard to find, non-standard batteries
No lanyard
No magnetic function
No lantern function
Low value for such a high price
No lantern function

5. Olight Warrior X

The Verdict:

While not a bad flashlight when it works, this unit features a low-battery indicator that vibrates the entire flashlight when you need a charge. Unfortunately, this vibration kept occurring non-stop, even when we had a full charge. This was incredibly annoying, and a total deal-breaker that made us go running for any other flashlight on this list.

Pros

Bright output
Silicon Grip Ring

Cons

Uses hard to find, non-standard batteries
Low battery indicator comes on even when you have a full charge
Gets stuck in vibration mode, which is painfully annoying
Uncomfortable grip
No lantern function

Why is FotiaLamp the Best Military Tactical Flashlight You Can Buy?

When comparing all of these products during our testing, it quickly became apparent that most of them had one or two features that made them stand out from the pack. However, only the FotiaLamp combined all of these features in a single Tactical Flashlight that used readily-available batteries – and at a reasonable price, as well.

It also must be said that each of the other flashlights we tested, all of them lacked one or more features we feel is an absolute necessity for a tactical flashlight in today’s world. Only the FotiaLamp provided every feature we need, without any of the drawbacks of the competing flashlights.

With all of the positive features we require, and without any of the drawbacks or failings we found in competing units, the FotiaLamp Military Tactical Flashlight truly stood head and shoulders above the rest of the competition.

What Sets FotiaLamp Apart?

While all of the products we tested were obviously capable of producing light, when comparing tactical flashlights of this kind the devil truly is in the details.

When choosing a flashlight for Everyday Carry (EDC), you don’t want to get stuck somewhere in a bad situation, wishing you had brought along your other flashlight instead.

Case in point: the FotiaLamp features a lantern mode that can be used by sliding up the body of the flashlight. In today’s world, we consider this hands-free option to be absolutely essential in a tactical flashlight.

Being able to stand the lantern down on its own allows you to use both hands to perform such tasks as changing your car’s tires in the dark. Imagine trying to do such an intensive task without having both hands free!

None of the competing flashlights feature any kind of hands-free or lantern mode.

It’s the seemingly small features like lantern mode that actually make a TREMENDOUS difference in the real world. And only the FotiaLamp checked all the boxes for these vital, most important features.
Another vital feature is FotiaLamp’s magnetic mount. If your car breaks down on some dark road and you need to fiddle around under the hood, the ability to mount the light on any metallic part of your car is a true lifesaver, as again, it lets you have both hands free. But none of the competing products features any kind of magnetic mount.

Or consider something like batteries. If you suffer a power outage due to an earthquake or tornado, do you want to be stuck with a dead flashlight that requires exotic, non-standard batteries that you have to ORDER ONLINE? Or would you prefer a flashlight like FotiaLamp, that uses batteries you can readily find at any convenience store or supermarket? (note: FotiaLamp can also use a 18650 Li-ion battery if you prefer)

We know which flashlight WE would want to have if our cars broke down or the power grid failed. And when you combine the fantastic features of the FotiaLamp with the kind of hard-to-believe low price they’re selling FotiaLamp for, the question really is a no-brainer.

In short? FotiaLamp wins by a mile. When you consider all of the features it provides you, without any of the drawbacks of the competing units, none of the other flashlights we tested even comes close.
